Nola Indie Radar: Louisiana Produces

If you don't know about Louisiana Produces already, you should. This meetup group gets together once a month (on the first Tuesday of the month at 7pm) to discuss the local film industry. There's a meetup group for Louisiana Produces on Meetup.com that gives the dates and details. The group meets in the upstairs banquet room at Nirvana Indian Restaurant on Magazine- the door is to the right of the restaurant's main entry and then you go up the stairs. If you get there early enough, just follow the crowds up.

At any given meeting there may be anywhere from a handful of people to upwards of 100 people from all realms of movie production. A lot of actors show up, but you'll also see producers, directors, screenwriters, DPs, camera assistants, costume designers, art directors, etc. Some people are pitching or promoting their projects or services, some are just interested in learning more about how to break into the industry here in Louisiana.

There is often a guest speaker or two, and there is always time set aside for networking at the end of the meeting. We found a lot of our cast and crew for our 48-hour short film at Louisiana Produces, and we've also met other filmmakers there that we later worked with.
